Income Possibilities

Like many businesses, this ceramic business can be whatever you make out of it (The more you market, the more business you will bring in).  I truly believe that you can pay off your start-up costs and make a profit your first year, which is great compared to any starting business that take 2-3 years to break even.  One of the wonderful aspects of marketing with this type of business is that once you make an appointment, you don’t have to try and sell the plaques to the parents, the beautiful and precious ceramic impression samples will sell themselves since parents view them as special and unique keepsakes.

What is wonderful about this business is that you can really take this business wherever you wish...only work part time and take a few appointments a week, hosting events at baby stores, with schools, opening a studio; the possibilities are endless. The amount of money you make will depend on how many hours you work and how many imprints events and appointments you have for that month.

Average individual toddler appointment: $95

Average individual newborn appointment: $145

Average individual appointment with 3 kids: $250

Average Imprints Party (6 moms): $500

Average Large event at a baby store (20 appointments): $2,000

What is so special about our training is that you will receive templates and you will learn to create classic design plaques (trains, boats, surfboards, etc.) that sell for $20-$25 more per plaque than squares, circles and rectangles.

Your overall sells will depend on your business goals and how many hours you would like to work.  My current hourly rate is $45 per hour. At the beginning, your hourly rate will be lower, but as you gain more practice you will increase your speed at designing, glazing, appointments, imprints parties, etc.

Like any business you have to invest money to make money. The realistic start-up costs will be approximately $10,000, which will cover training, purchase of a kiln and kiln furniture, upgrade to your electricity at your home, and cost of your permits. All of the manual tools to create the plaques will be included as part of your package, including a start-up supply clay, glaze, brushes, ribbons, and everything else that you will need to create the plaques and start your business. You may  invest in an office desk, ceramic work desk and drying shelf, but you don't need these to start your business. In the beginning I worked on a small folding table and dried my plaques in boards under my bed, couch, dressers, and this worked fine until I was able to make up my start-up costs and invest more in the business.
